The winery's been buzzing...
By Jillian Nero, The Original Flat Rock Groupie (aka Marketing Manager)
I've heard some loyal Flat Rockers are missing our monthly news updates, so I will be the one to take full responsibility for our inbox absence. The winery's been buzzing over the past couple of months, and through all the excitement the thought of sitting in front of a computer screen seemed, well...a little daunting. In attempt to make up for my procrastination I'll give you the Coles Notes version of what's been happening since our last instalment.
As Ed mentioned above, the harvest team arrived and were quickly put to work harvesting some Chardonnay destined for sparkling in early September. One of our interns, Emily actually arrived with a little extra baggage; two roosters and three hens. The FRC team quickly welcomed the new additions to our family by setting up shop for our new feathered friends. The hens are keeping busy laying yummy eggs fated for team dinners and the roosters, well are doing what roosters do best - cock-a-doodle-doo! If you are planning to come by over the next little while, I do ask that you please drive cautiously as our chickens have free run of the place throughout the day.
We have actually seen a number of Flat Rockers out for our Pick, Stomp and Taste seminar and the final instalment of our In the Winemaker's Boots full-day seasonal series - two events focused on the excitement of harvest. Take a look at some of the photos from Pick, Stomp and Taste on Flickr. It's pretty evident everyone enjoyed themselves including the FRC team. Really, there was no better way to spend a Saturday. Pick, Stomp and Taste was really like a mini-spa treatment among the vineyards with a glass of wine in hand. Sure there was a little manual labour, but the antioxidants in the grapes and the stress relief of squishing them under your feet was worth its weight in gold. If you've never tried this, you're definitely missing out - be sure to hit us up for a spot next year.
Looking back I do miss letting our fans in on our little FRC world (a little therapy for me I guess), so my pledge is to not let this happen again. Until next time.
