Don't Miss the Summer of Chardonnay!

A Word from Ed

Summer is finally making an appearance!  We have been patiently waiting and are very excited about this year's harvest.  But before we can begin the hard, yet rewarding work of harvest, there are many great new wines and events we want to share with you.  Our 2007 Pinot Noir has come and gone to rave reviews.  Although it is now sold out, we will be releasing our 2007 Gravity Pinot Noir - a simply fantastic wine.  Also, check out the great events we have in August and September here at the winery.  The grape stomp is always one of my favourites - messy and fun.

Finally, it is the Summer of Chardonnay.  So grab a bottle of FRC Chardonnay, chill it down and enjoy all that summer has to offer.

Winemaking Update: August 2008

Our 2008 aromatics from our March bottling are already flying off the shelf, and it's time to bottle the last of the 2008 vintage. We'll be releasing our 2007 Gravity Pinot Noir this weekend, our 2008 Pinot Noir in a couple of weeks and we're also very excited about our first batch of sparkling wine, which will be ready this fall.

As for the 2009 harvest, the vineyard is healthy and the winery is gearing up for its busiest time. This year's team will be arriving soon from around the globe to lend their skills and talents to Flat Rock's seventh vintage. (Hopefully, Mother Nature will be kind and it will be a lucky one!)

New Release

2006 Gravity

The time has come.  The much anticipated 2007 Gravity Pinot Noir has been resting peacefully in bottle for the past couple of months and it's now finally ready to be enjoyed by all.  We are happy to announce that come this weekend (August 15th), the 2007 Gravity will be available for purchase in our winery retail store and on-line for $29.95 per bottle (plus deposit).  We hope to see you here at the winery very soon to taste and buy up some for yourself.

Summer of Chardonnay Feature

With September quickly approaching, the days of sandals and suntan lotion seem to be quickly coming to an end.  We at Flat Rock Cellars however, are putting our foot down to Mother Nature by refusing to believe that summer is almost over.  We don't want the Summer of Chardonnay to end, and neither should you.  With our amazing selection of wines to suit even the most fickle of palates, there are many reasons to forge through and refuse to say goodbye to summer for another year.

Here is one example that pays homage to this beautiful, complex grape known as Chardonnay.  In fact Chardonnay is so special to us that Ed himself named this wine after an old rusty shed in the middle of our vineyard...

The story kind of goes like this.  There was a rusty old shed in the middle of the vineyard.  After months of staring at it and postponing the obvious need to have it painted, Ed had a solution.  A name for our very best Chardonnay - a wine of depth, complexity and character, and one less chore to do.  Needless to say, the shed shall remain unpainted.

At Flat Rock Cellars we are aware of our social responsibility to give back to the community and have initiated a campaign that involves donating a portion of our retail wine tasting fees to a charity chosen every two months by a staff member at Flat Rock Cellars.

July and August's charity is the Lincoln County Humane Society. The proceeds donated will go to support programs which include pet adoption, animal assisted therapy, pet care education, and investigations of animal cruelty and neglect.

For more information on the Lincoln County Humane Society or how you can help, please visit their website at www.lchs.ca.
