holiday season 2012

Back to Archive

It's amazing that another year has come and almost gone. We are approaching the time to celebrate with both old and new friends.  As always, I like to share Flat Rock Cellars with family and friends over the holidays and hope that we will fit somewhere into your enjoyment over the coming weeks.

We have had some changes at the winery over the last several weeks.  As we grow and evolve, new people come into our lives. The same is true for FRC. I am pleased to welcome to our team two great additions. First, Jay Johnston joins us as our new winemaker. As you know, I have always sourced the best winemakers from around the world to make our wine. Jay is no exception. He comes with great pedigree and skill that will elevate our wines to even greater heights. Better still, he comes from right here in Niagara. The more I travel the more I know that what we have right here in Ontario is special - our soil, our climate and most importantly, our people. Welcome Jay!

The second welcome is to Jennifer Hart who comes to us from the entertainment industry. She worked in marketing and as a business developer.  If you have had fun with Flat Rock in the past, I can only imagine what she will next bring to "entertain" us. Our club members have already been introduced to Jennifer and she has brought great energy and wine passion to our team. Cheers Jennifer!

Please join me in welcoming our team's newest members. You won't believe what they have in store for you here at Flat Rock Cellars.

I am very excited to have joined the Flat Rock Cellars team; it's great to work in a business you are really passionate about. I love wine and am especially fond of Ontario wine. I edit the Ontario Wine Society Newsletter in which, by coincidence this month I interview who turns out to be my new boss, Ed Madronich. Serendipity?

Upon arrival, I started thinking about the upcoming holiday season and how I love to receive wine and  'experiences' as gifts. So why not both...? This year we have added something a little different. With the purchase of 4 bottles you receive a Tour & Tasting Gift Card for Two and with a case purchase, a Ticket for Backstage Access and a Personalized Winemaker's Tasting for Two.

                                                 Christmas tree

If you would like to fill a gift basket or need a stocking stuffer, we have the solution for that too - handy 375ml (half-size) bottles of our most popular wines - Twisted, Chardonnay & Pinot Noir.

MIX & MATCH 3 BOTTLES - options range from $30 - 39.

We have the perfect spot to host your holiday party. Ask us about our 360 degree TASTING ROOM with spectactular views of the 98 acre estate and the Toronto skyline. We can help you toast to the new year with one of our sparklers!

Looking forward to meeting you!

By Jay Johnson,

The 2012 vintage is officially over. You'll be happy to hear that all the wines are safely packed away for winter. And what beautiful wines they are. There is a stunning array of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and some other special treats in the cellar. This means that the wonderful raw materials for winemaking are here and now the real fun begins - making those key blending decisions. How do we balance the power of certain Pinot Noir blocks with the sexy elegance of others? What Chardonnay barrels offer a certain toasty character that matches well with those that have ripe, complex fruit? Now the alchemy of winemaking can begin.

I have been following the incredible progress at Flat Rock Cellars since 2005 and am thrilled to join the team. My passion for Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (in no particular order!) aligns perfectly with our mandate at Flat Rock. And I can't talk about our beautiful vineyard enough. It is a truly rare opportunity to craft wines from such a gorgeous site. I look forward to taking care of the wines & vines and continuing the tradition of mixing passion, fun and exceptional winegrowing. We have all the tools and raw materials to make the very best for you.
