Special Library Release 2008 Reserve Chardonnay
The 2008 Reserve Chardonnay is predominantly clone 95, grown on the western edge of our vineyard. The grapes were hand picked in early October 2008 and following sorting they were whole bunch pressed. The lightly pressed juice was left to cold settle for two days in tank, before being racked off sediment and then flowed by gravity to French Oak barrels. Fermentation took place in barrel with a mix of wild fermentation and cultured yeasts being used, and all barrels underwent a full Malolactic fermentation. The barrels were stirred weekly for 6 months to develop a creamy flavour and texture from the yeast lees. In July, the very best Chardonnay barrels were selected to spend a further 10 months in older neutral French oak barrels. The wine was bottled without use of any fining agents.
Bottling date: 23 June 2010.
A great expression of cool climate Chardonnay, this wine is full of subtleties and intricacies. On the nose it shows baked apple, pear, and pastry, along with sweet spices such as cloves and cinnamon. The silky palate has the same array of flavours and will leave thoughts of apple strudel hanging on your tongue. The fresh acidity gives balance and focus to the palate, and is a great foil for the creamy texture and minerality. Vanilla and spice dominate the finish.
