(SOLD OUT) 2010 Gewurztraminer
From the Southern most part of our vineyard, next to Nadjas vineyard is our small block of Gewurztraminer. The sunny and warm 2010 summer and fall really suited the late ripening gewürztraminer vines, and we were able to make a small batch of very expressive wine. Hand harvested on the 9th October, the wine was destemmed and then left to cold soak in tank overnight, before being pressed in the morning. All different press fractions, from free run to the hardest pressed juice, were kept separate for fermentation. This allowed us some great blending options to work with. 25% of the wine was also fermented in old oak barrels, adding even more complexity and weight to the final blend. Bottling date: 15th March 2011.
"Chances are you will be able to detect the aromas of this wine long before your nose gets close to the glass. The aromas really do leap out of the glass, with gingerbread, rose petals and white peach being dominant forces. Other subtleties on the complex nose include passion fruit, cantaloupe and butterscotch. The palate is rich and creamy, viscous and smooth. Fresh ginger is back on the palate, and a warming spice is noticeable throughout. Mango and passion fruit flavours add a tropical twist to this very alluring wine. Drink while young and fresh."
