2010 Nadja's Vineyard Riesling
The southern-most and highest altitude section of our vineyard is the site of Nadja’s Vineyard – a 2.5 acre block of Riesling sitting on top of a solid bed of limestone. Hand harvested on the 25th September 2010, the grapes were then hand sorted and whole bunch pressed. Cold setting took place for 2 days, and the clear juice was then racked and fermented cold in stainless steel tanks for over a month. The wine was fermented close to dryness, and when the optimum balance is achieved the fermentation is stopped naturally by chilling the wine. The wine was then racked of yeast, stabilized and bottled in March of 2011.
The Nadja’s Riesling involves an absolute minimum of winemaker influence, and is a true representation of the unique flavours of the vineyard from which it is grown.
"The intense minerality and citrus characters so dominant in previous vintages of our Nadja's vineyard Riesling are back again in 2010. The citrus shows through as candied lemon zest and there is a floral background to compliment it. Hints of stone fruit also show through, evidence of the heat of the great 2010 summer. On the palate the zest continues and the chalky minerality adds weight and complexity. Racy acidity rounds off the finish, leaving a clean and pure expression of the flavours grown in this unique vineyard." - Ross Wise, Winemaker
