2010 The Rusty Shed Chardonnay
Harvested earlier than usual, in Mid September, the 2010 Chardonnay crop showed great flavour concentration and many subtleties in the vineyard. Each sub block was harvested and processed seperately to preserve and further accentuate their individual differences. All batches were gently pressed and then cold settled for 48 hours before fermentation in barrel. The Rusty Shed blend was made from selected barrels that best express the characters of our vineyard, with fruit intensity and aromatics being a key. The use of oak was also an important consideration, and the final blend is a careful mix of new and seasoned French oak. Wild fermentation is also big part of this wines story, with 75% of the selected barrels having fermented naturally.
2010 has delivered us another great installment of The Rusty Shed Chardonnay. The warmer than average season has lead to ripe fruit flavours, bordering on tropical fruit. Pineapple, melon and white peach aromas and flavours are particularly bold on the palate. The oak influence is trademark Rusty Shed, with the subtleties of the French oak delivering sweet spices, caramel, toast, and traces of vanilla and cream.
