(SOLD OUT) 2010 Unplugged Chardonnay
A blend of our four sub-blocks of Chardonnay, this wine is made in a style that allows the flavours of the grape and the vineyard shine through. Entirely hand harvested and sorted grapes were gently destemmed and pressed, and then cold settled for two days. The clean juice was then racked and fermented cold in a stainless steel tank with a selected burgundian yeast. Following fermentation the wine was left in tank (no barrels) on the settled yeast to develop further compexity and mouthfeel, before being racked and filtered prior to bottling in May of 2011.
Our Unplugged always shows its terroir very well, and 2010 is no exception. The influence of the climate comes through strongly. The hot summer of 2010 has created a ripe spectrum of aromas and flavours, including pineapple, peach and pear. But as a reminder that we are a cool climate region, there is also a great fresh core to the wine. Lemon zest and green apple flavours demonstrate this well. To round it all off, there is a yeast derived creamy meringue character in the background - the only evidence of any winemaker interaction. This is truly a vineyard driven wine.
