2010 Harvest Ends, our Winemaker SpeaksPosted October 24, 2010
Winemaker Ross Wise steps out of the cellar long enough to sum up harvest 2010 and express his delight with the recently bottled 2009's, particularly the Pinot Noir!
A Word from the Wise
The 2010 harvest is now officially over, at least from a vineyard perspective. All the grapes are off the vines, but the winemaking has just begun. All the 2010 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is now in barrel, and the Rieslings are happily and slowly fermenting away in tank. Overall the quality looks really good for all of our varieties, and it will be interesting to see these wines grown from the ‘hot’ season develop. Harvest started the day after we finished bottling the 2009 Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. I recently had my first chance to have a look at these wines in bottle, and we are already seeing some great results. All the wines, although still young, are showing great fruit intensity and balance, and look like they will be wines that will continue to evolve and develop complexity for many years.
