Ciao! Flat Rock Pinot heads to Italy

A couple of months back our fearless leader reluctantly accepted the arduous task of presenting our Pinot Noirs to a group of distinguished Italian trade and media in Florence.  The tasting hosted by Decanter Contributor, Ian D'Agata was designed to compare Ontario Pinot Noir to fine examples of Burgundy and Barbaresco.  In attendance was our 2009 Reserve Pinot Noir which captured the palates of some prominent wine writer's at the event - including Ian himself.  The yet to be released top Pinot is a blend of a few of the very best barrels from the stellar 2009 vintage.  Here's what the experts are saying:

90 Points "Good deep red. Redcurrant, mocha, smoke and flowers on the nose. Nicely concentrated and vibrant, with a somewhat cool, crisp quality to the red fruit, cassis, sweet spice and mineral flavors. Builds nicely on the back end, with the tannins well buffered by the wine's creamy-rich mid-palate material. This very impressive pinot noir will benefit from another year in the cellar..." "A bit of an awkward "ugly duckling" at first (as one member of the Italian wine trade put it), but blossoms beautifully, showing bright currant, black cherry, cranberry, earth and spice with a creamy texture and nice complexity.  A little closed on the finish, but a little more time in the bottle should allow for fuller expression."
