HARVEST 2012Back to Archive
A MESSAGE FROM ED
Harvest came early this year on the Bench. We began picking late August and finished up before Thanksgiving. It was a pretty dry summer with all stars aligning for a nearly perfect season so we are looking forward to a bunch of high quality wines coming out of this year.
We have a lot of exciting things going on at the winery this fall. In addition to the beauty of the fall colours, we have our first ever Pinot Envy Weekend coming up. I love Pinot! This weekend and next we will celebrate the 'heartbreak grape'. I have dusted off previous vintages from my library to be enjoyed. Might even bring out the very first Flat Rock Pinot Noir made in 2003.
There are a couple of cool winemaker's dinners that I'll be doing. Little Inn in Bayfield is a great little jaunt out of town at this time of the year and I'll be up in the Markam area at the beautiful Angus Glen Golf Club as well. Promises to be good food and wine. I promise not to talk too much!
Save the date for our annual "Very Merry Shindig" here at the winery. We have set the date earlier this year to sidestep the hustle of the season, we're all a little hectic toward Christmas but we love to celebrate our customers with this little gathering showing you a little of what's new in our bottles.

Little Inn in Bayfield Winemaker's Dinner. November 10th.
We love this Inn so much that this has become an annual "must do" for Ed and his family. It is a five-course, five-wine pairing dinner designed to compliment the best of the winery and the season.
A WORD FROM THE WISE
By Ross Wise, Viticulture Guru (aka Winemaker)
Harvest 2012 is officially done, from a grape harvesting point of view anyway. The last of our 208 tonnes rolled across the sorting table today. It has been a remarkably good quality harvest, across all varieties. From the earliest picked Gewurztraminer, the berries have been ripe, clean and full of flavour. The harvest was also the earliest on record here, with the first grapes coming off the vine on the 30th of August. It seems crazy that on the 1st of October - the same day that we started picking in 2009 - all of our 2012 Pinot Noir was tucked away in barrel!
SAVE THE DATE
Our annual "Very Merry Shindig" will be at the winery on November 17th.
Look forward to details coming soon.
