The Sun Sets on Another Harvest

Back to Archive

Word from Ed
The 2009 harvest has come and gone.  And what a harvest it was.  My nerves were a bit frayed back in August given our cool summer.  However, a perfect September has resulted in some spectacular grapes being harvested in October.   In particular, Pinot Noir was absolutely perfect.  We may have lamented a cool summer, but Pinot Noir certainly rejoiced.

This fall our hard work was again rewarded when our Riesling won Best White at the Intervin International Wine competition.  This wine bested all other whites with an amazing price tag to boot ~ $16.95.  Unfortunately, as with all Flat Rock Cellars wines, it is limited in supply and sells out quickly.

I would like to thank the international harvest team whose hard work and dedication to making the best wine possible did not go unnoticed.  I know all of you will notice their efforts when you taste the wines from 2009.  The team included:

Estelle, Laurie and Anthony from France
Christian from Chile
Casey and Kerrie from Canada

Finally, as always there are lots of great events, special offers and fabulous new release wines coming in the days and months ahead.  Check them out.  I know you won't be disappointed.

2008 Riesling wins Best White at InterVin
2006 RieslingFlat Rock Cellars' 2008 Riesling was named the Best White Wine at the 2009 InterVin International Wine Awards in a press release Thursday from the competition organizers.  The entered wines were judged blind over 3 days in September by a panel of distinguished sommeliers, wine writers, educators and winemakers who assessed more than 750 wines from 16 countries.

More information about the winners will be available in the National Post's "Drinks Quarterly" section on Saturday, November 14th.

This is not the first time the Estate Riesling won top prize at a competition.  Past vintages of the same wine have also won Best White at the Canadian Wine Awards on two separate occasions.

Limited quantities of this vintage are available through our online store or by calling the winery directly at (905) 562-8994.  We can ship anywhere in Ontario (shipping rates vary by location).  You must be 19 years of age or older to purchase.
